Well, I'm finally getting to the race report from the Nov. 11 Edisto Island 70.3 and last triathlon of the season. The boys and I had a blast making it a "dad and lad" weekend as we camped Friday night before the race. I'm very thankful Zach came along to be with the boys so they could cheer on dad during the race. 🙂 The summary phrase from the race is that I'm happy but hungry. Happy with time as it's a personal best at this distance but hungry for the elusive sub-5 finish time for this 70.3 distance.

1.2 Mile Swim - 25:21
T1 - 2:13
56 Mile Bike - 2:43:43
T2 - 1:11
13.1 Mile Run - 1:49:27
Final Time - 5:01:55
18/132 Overall
4/10 in Age Group

I'm very happy with the swim as it's the fastest swim I've ever done at this distance. The current helped for sure. I'm moderately happy with the bike. The course was flat but super windy so it was hard to find a consistent rhythm. I'm very happy with both transition times. However, the run was a bust. The first couple of miles were awful and my stomach was not cooperating, so I couldn't take in any nutrition the entire run. I managed to sip water and minimal gatorade. I tried to push near the end to get sub-5 but it wasn't going to happen. The weather was cold (50s) and windy all day and the rain started near the end of the run. This was by far the worst conditions I've experienced in triathlon racing. But no excuses. I should have prepared better. In spite of the weather conditions and uncooperative stomach, I'm so thankful for the opportunity to race this course in my home state and interact with the other athletes pushing each other to excel and encouraging one another on the course. For all my Tri friends reading this - consider a destination late-season race next year on Edisto Island. I'm sure hoping for warm and dry weather next year.
